From School Library Journal
Gr 7 Up—Teens with gastrointestinal disorders often feel uncomfortable and misunderstood by peers and loved ones. Abdominal pain, bloating, gas, and bouts of diarrhea are common symptoms that generally cause undue embarrassment and stress. In this highly engaging volume, Warren, a registered dietitian nutritionist and author of The Smart Girl's Guide to Going Vegetarian, sets out with two goals: to provide detailed information about the inner workings of the digestive system and to promote the use of the low-FODMAP plan. (FODMAP is an acronym referring to common carbohydrates found in diets.) There is an abundance of scientific information (plentiful but not overwhelming) as well as sound steps for managing everyday situations. The tone is laid-back (even somewhat witty), which helps to convey the message in a digestible manner (no pun intended). Supplementing the text are a section of 30 recipes supporting the FODMAP diet and a resource list. A bibliography is included. However, several of the entries are articles from professional journals, which may pose problems in accessing. VERDICT A beneficial guide for teens serious about digestive health.—Jeanette Lambert, formerly at Nashville-Davidson County Schools, TN

A very good book for young people with various digestive problems. Easy to read and the dietary guidelines are very easy to follow. Good recipes also. I bought this for my grandson who is newly diagnosed with Crohn's disease.
easy and understandable book to read.
basic stuff
As a fellow registered dietitian nutritionist I'm thrilled that this book exists! While the book is written for teens, I often recommend it to adult clients who feel overwhelmed about starting a low FODMAP plan. Rachel's writing style not only makes very complex information easy to understand, but it's also positive, encouraging, and supportive. And the book provides food and grocery lists, meal plans, and recipes, which makes it easy to get started and begin to see results. I highly recommend this book to anyone who struggles with digestive issues, to better understand how your body works, and learn how to start feeling better. This book can help you reduce the stress often associated with GI issues, and feel empowered about how to best manage your health.
This book has lots of useful information in a format which I think will appeal to teens. Not too simple, not too complex, not too much like a lecture.... I will recommend it to my friends whose teens have gut issues!I received a free electronic copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a fantastic book and I wouldn't hesitate to give it five stars.I was diagnosed in my very early twenties with IBS and I wish I had been able to have access to a book like this when I was first going through the symptoms before the official diagnosis came through.Easy to read, full of things you want and need to know and generally excellent - 5 stars
