I have recently discovered Helen's instructive books and highly recommend to any aspiring Artist! Although I have been painting and selling my art for a few years the lessons are still good to learn how she paints and shapes her Portraits. To me for anyone thinking of doing Portrait painting this is a very good resource of one artist's sharing what works for them!
Helen was a gifted artist who sadly died about 10-14 years ago. Herbeatiful paintintintys paintings directly on the canvas we’re a joy watch. As the class would enjoy the paintings would develope Helen would drop little tips of gold on painting that you would find youseff useing all your life

Hi, Based on the contents of the book, it was not what I expected. The illustrations were Black and White. I was expecting COLORED ILLUSTRATIONS. I was VERY, VERY disappointed. .........thanks ...Elwin
I like this book even though most of the photos are in black and white. ( there are actually some color photos ) . The information given by Ms. Van Wyk is still useful today as more artist's are using acrylic paint in so many ways including portraiture.I found some information that I could use and refer to .
Helen is underrated as a teacher. Great book.
