I would recommend this book to people who are new and old to the subject. In a field flooded with cranks, Nathaniel Altman is a serious and credible source. Based on his own research and experience for over four decades, he writes with authority and humility about what he has learned, and unlearned, in a subject about which much nonsense has been written and repeated without question over the years. Coming from a background in holistic medicine, I have been studying and practicing chirology for ten years. I use chirology as one of several diagnostic tools in my practice, and over long term contact with my clients I am able to test the veracity of what I read. I have more than a few books on the subject and am always on the lookout for new contributions to the field. To my frustration, though there are many recent books out, most of them have nothing new to say and it's obvious that the authors have only superficial knowledge of the subject. It seems there are very few people actually researching, rather than just parroting, in this field. I was skeptical that there was a new book out that wasn't full of the same old drivel we find published ad nauseam, but was pleasantly surprised with this one. Although this author builds on the contributions of many different palmists of the past, offering their various interpretations for comparison, he adds his own vetted experience to the discussion, giving a deep and well-rounded perspective on the subject. Through his extensive experience, he manages to distill many voices into a certain simplicity, and raises intelligent questions without giving trite, pedantic answers. I appreciate the honest and thoughtful approach to many of the questions I have been struggling with. He also uses good quality prints to make his points. So, when I read this book I feel I am consulting with a friend whose experience I respect.
If you can purchase only one book on palmistry, let it be Nathaniel Altman's comprehensive, Palmistry:The Universal Guide. Altman's book is well organized beginning with the basics then progressing to how the palm relates to your inner world, relationships, health, life's task and spirituality. The book is loaded with helpful photos and diagrams that illustrate how to analyze the palm for self knowledge. This book elevates the sometimes scorned practice of palmistry by placing it in an historical perspective and within the context of other New Age healing modalities. If you have more money to spend, buy any of Nathaniel Altman's books on holistic healing. You will not be disappointed. Altman's concern and compassion for humanity shine through his words.
I absolutely adore this book. The writer's experience is evident. It is extremely easy to follow and comprehend. It is great for beginners or just for review for intermediate palm readers. This book will remain in my collection for good. The illustrations are also great as a point of reference within the reading material.
I love love LOVE this Palmistry book. Easy (and interesting) to read, with diagrams and pictures of many hand prints from real people, stating things about their personality, fame, illness(es) and/or careers. It tells you how to do your own hand prints to make reading your palm much easier and a sheet near the back to write down your findings.I would recommend this any day!
