what a crazy world nursing is. Sure there's a "shortage" but what they don't tell you is that there is a glut of nurses looking for work, and a shortage of hospitals willing to fork out the money to staff the hospital correctly. Which is how I ended up considering doing travel nursing.For over a year I was being courted by an agency, and everything was in place. When I left the last staff position I had, I began to look at what they had available, thinking it was a good way to transition to my next hospital.What I found instead was a sort of high-pressure, used car sales type tactics. The recruiter was always really keen on this "great opportunity" or other, always not quite what I had asked for (a little too far of a commute, the pay wasn't enough, there was no support, etc, etc)I once did find a slot that seemed like it might be good, but before I could ask anything about the position it had been snatched up.So, this book did a lot of good in pointing me toward the types of questions to ask, the things to look out for, what to make sure I get in writing up front. I think I might have taken one of the positions, but because I was well-prepared by this book, I didn't fall for some "great opportunity" that would not have been right for me.These recruiters get a huge bonus for signing you on, and getting you into a slot--but it's YOUR back, and it's YOUR license, so be careful. You need to read this book to learn what to ask, what to look out for, and never be rushed into an assignment that isn't right for you, simply because of their pressure. You are the talent, and they need you, not the other way around. In the end, I got fed up with the high-pressure baloney and submitted a few more applications and found a job that is perfect for me, right near my home, awesome commute, more than double what I would have made through the agency, and I can't be happier.I'm still glad I read this book, and I think it should be a mandatory read by all nurses, not just for those considering travel, but for anyone going on any interview. I have applied the questions to permanent job interviews with great success.The info in this book would be something I referred back to if I had taken a travel assignment--all that stuff like taxes and moving and paperwork and forms...it's all here.Worth the price I paid for it.

I am getting ready to take my first travel assignment as an ICU RN and this book has really helped me organize all the paperwork I need for traveling. It has some great information about contracts, taxes, what to expect, how to interview and pick the right assignment for you. Very easy to read and interesting stories from the writer's personal travel experiences. This book has all the information that anyone will ever need about traveling without overwhelming someone taking their first travel assignment. I rented this book instead of buying it. I have been thinking about traveling nursing for awhile and wanted to find some information on the subject. I thought this book was pretty informative and I enjoyed reading it.
