About the Author
JASON GRUHL is the former executive director and founder of The Joshua School (a school for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and Developmental Disabilities in Boulder and Denver, CO). Jason holds a Master's degree in counseling psychology and a Bachelor's degree in English and Psychology, and dedicates his life to self-discovery through meditation and reflection. Still waiting for the accompanying deck, but the book itself is absolutely beautiful. I flipped through and I love that it explains how to use the journal, as well as examples of drawing cards.
It really rounds out the Tarot experience. Giving further insights and the ability to track personal card readings and progress... I love it
It’s as beautiful and thoughtful as the Fountain Tarot deck from the illustrations to the in depth insight and wisdom that went into each card. A must have for anyone that loves the Fountain Tarot deck or any other deck.
This journal is a perfect balance of accessibility and Getting To The Point.There is a brief introduction here to the structure and interpretation of tarot cards, but the majority of the space is committed to the stated purpose of the journal which is to look at your cards for yourself.One of the tricky things about being an intermediate tarot reader (or at least no longer a beginner) is finding new angles on familiar material. Another is finding ways to practice. This journal, with its framing (consistent structure, and encouragement you can read for yourself and enrich your life) was in that sweet spot for me.I will say: the introductory list/how-to overwhelmed me at first, with its extensive list of themes one *could* find or follow over time. I spent entirely too much time rereading this material before I looked ahead to see how it was applied. The good news was that once I saw the structure in practice (there are sample questions and readings) the understanding fell into place.Invitation to ritual and the anticipation of lessons-to-be-learned are the strengths of this journal, along with the gorgeous images from the authors' Fountain Tarot. It's only fair to warn you, if you don't have this deck yet you'll find it harder and harder to resist.(I was given a sample copy to review and it did not influence my thoughts on the book itself.)
What an excellent way to assure that we are practicing with the cards on a regular basis! There is ample space of one reading a week for a whole year, plus a good section at the beginning- introducing us to the cards, as well as several different spreads. I also loved the beautiful illustrations from the Fountain Tarot deck itself as well as the many wise and inspiring quotes woven throughout.I was interested in this book because I am a SoulCollage Facilitator. SoulCollage is an intuitive process where we make our own deck of cards that reflect our own life journeys including cards that represent our inner voices, community members, archetypes and animal guides. I found this book helpful because many of the spreads suggested can be adapted to the endings that we do with our own cards.Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for an advance reading copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
It's always hard to review titles like these, as the format doesn't lend itself to Kindle and things can get confused and muddled up. Allowing for that, though, this is a lovely, well designed book with plenty of space to write in and keep notes, and plenty of instructions and tips for tarot readers ranging from complete beginners to old hands. It would make a great gift for a beginning reader.A very attractive title.
I definitely see how this will be a nice edition to people whom own the fountain tarot deck! It has a nice introduction that I think many people will enjoy along with space!
