I very highly recommend this book but the author is correct in stating that it can't be read out of order. So many characters and details are introduced in book one, Alpha. Those characters and details are expanded upon in Heart. And new info added as well. A continuing saga of healing, growth, relationships, humor...The first Ghost of the overall storyline is not anyone I was expecting but wow. That Ghost and their ties to the submissives was a complete surprise. And yet another reflection of the evil that the previous alpha inflicted on the pack. More ghosts are still hiding out in the woods or further, waiting for their time to appear.The idiot dominants. One step forward and two back.Lyssa's friend Bailey makes her appearance. And interacts in interesting ways with Hayden, the new alpha.I'm getting ready to re-read book one and two, paying more attention on the characters introduced and making sure that I have a good feel for personalities, relationships, interests... I may first re-read book two again just for the joy it creates in my heart, tough decision.Looking forward to book three. Read it in one day, as it was so good to get back into the Ghost Mountain Pack's new dynamics. Faye did not disappoint - excellent story progression with hints of more, funny scenes, heartwarming scenes, with some important back info. Not as many new characters, so it was easy to keep track of the intertwined stories. So far I am loving this new series, and hope it becomes as well known and loved as the Witch Central/Modern Witch series she wrote under another name. The characters are realistic - lots of flaws, lots of hope, sadness balancing out joy, etc. It's a book written to make you feel good at the end, which is a great break for me from some of the dark, depressing stuff that's out there, in books and in life. Audrey Faye writes how life should be looked at, shows the struggles and gives thoughts and ideas on how to embrace your inner wolf :)
I love the characters, plot, and pace of this book! It's even better than the first book in the Ghost Mountain Shifters and that's saying a lot. If you're looking for a book that includes the tropes of Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance, or any other genre, forget about it. It's a warm, wonderful mashup that follows no hard and fast rules, it's just Audrey Faye at her best. I'm really looking forward to the next one.
Audrey Faye has a way of writing about tough times being soothed by friendship and loving kindness. Reading about this band of shifters finding their strengths as they grow past fear is a pleasure. A new reader should start with the first book in this series, ALPHA, to appreciate the journey.
I enjoyed getting to know the characters more, their psyches, their souls and what makes them tick. It feels like I know them personally, like a friend next door, or a near relation. This adds such depth to the story. I am already looking forward to the next installment in the series.
Family, kindness, and care. Audrey gives us an intricate plot that takes readers on an unpredictable journey to an expected and entirely satisfying destination.
What a wonderful series this is. The people part and the wolf parts of these wonderful, brave, scared individuals working to make themselves over is inspiring. All this from a gifted storyteller. Thank, Audrey!
I know I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again, the only bad think about Audrey's books is the end. She could write something the length of War and Peace and it still wouldn't be enough. I discovered her books eons ago (she wasn't Audrey then), at a time when life was very tough. From her first book she had me snared, her books have made me literally LOL, shed tears, and grin stupidly. But don't start thinking her books are cookie cutter, feel good, cozy style books, they're not. There's a little violence, guys with no filter, strong women, and it all rolls up into an amazing book. BUT in order to understand this book you HAVE to ready the first book.
