This was a horribly edited, meandering book that feels as if it were transcribed from a personal recorder. But i couldn't put it down. Frustratingly sparse on conclusion or even narrative, it presents the most titillating examples of extremely unusual and well executed masonry that by all reasoning must have been far beyond the capability of the civilizations they were attributed to. The Incans and others appear to have built on the back of a much older and more skilled civilization. This book does what it can without the benefit of much scientific research to encourage the scientific community to get past the accepted rhetoric and really challenge the old ideas that do nothing to answer the obvious disparity between conjecture and cold hard evidence. Until they do, take this book and have your own expansion of mind. It's worth the trip.
This is a subject I’m interested in, and I bought the book to read before an upcoming trip to Peru and Bolivia. Unfortunately, the book needs an editor very badly. Poor grammar, misuse of quote marks, etc. make it hard to concentrate on the subject matter.The author spends too much time pushing his other books (several times in each chapter). I liked the photos and some of the description, but this book frankly isn’t worth the money.
I highly recommend this book to both people who find holes in mainstream science narrative about the history of Peru and Bolivia themselves and to those who simply haven't thought hard enough and not questioned the mainstream science stance on this question yet. It's easy to read and will show why you should consider visiting these places one day and see these megalithic structures with your own eyes.
Very interesting and educational. We, the people, do not know what was happening on our planet in great antiquity. This book makes it clear that civilization was way beyond what we are now. I also notice that this situation with the monolithic structures with the later, less well made and designed buildings, walls, etc. happens all over the world.
History is nothing if not a mystery. Since it is always told only from the victor's point of view, so much is lost in the telling. The sitesreferenced by Foerster, and the baffling evidence of incongruent technologies employed in the megalithic constructions, by supposedprimitive cultures, begs serious study. Certainly more than the hack attempts given on the History channel. From my first acquaintance ofthe Inca culture and their predecessors, I'd wondered how a "primitive culture" could have produced the architectural marvels thatstill exist today, despite the geologically active area they are in. The large body of photographic depictions in the book underscore the factthat the Inca masonry is a poor attempt at replicating the earlier master craftsmen's work, however it was accomplished. There are so manysites in both Peru and Bolivia which predate the Inca, Chimu, and other cultures erased from history, whose scale and skill level are baffling.Thanks Brien, for keeping a light shining on a wide range of our sadly, little explored cultural heritage.
The book answers many questions about the past that I have such an interest in. I believe modern technology can/could not rival some of the work pictured and described in this book, so it is good that the author took time to explore and share his findings with the world. Grateful.
It has always been my idea that current archeology needs input from many different sources of science and engineering.Archeologists are unable to open their minds to different points of view when it comes to the time line of civilization even when evidence doesn't fit their agenda.
