When I read 2-ingredient dough, I was thinking water and flour, which is a basic paper mache recipe. But self rising flour and Greek yoghurt is an interesting concept. The recipes do not stay at two ingredients, but the base is always the flour and yoghurt which they show to be a flexible base for all kinds of doughs from pizza to breads and biscuits.We always have Greek yoghurt on hand, but we needed to go out and get some self rising flour to do a test run of one of the most basic recipes in the book - Drop biscuits. They did not rise a whole lot, but they made very satisfying cheese biscuits similar to Red Lobster's. We are definitely ready to try a whole lot more recipes from the book now, especially bagels.The cookbook is perfectly laid out and there are photos for each recipe which I really like. The photos are not all prize winning food photography, so the pictures are probably closer to what I will actually be able to make. The food definitely looks like my food rather than the highly stylized food from some cookbooks. But the main thing is that there are photos to help me visualize the food.All in all, it is a very nice and inspiring cookbook. It kind of tries to push this magic dough into all dough solutions, and so far it looks like it will work. Definitely glad that it is in our kitchen library, and looking forward to trying bagels this weekend.
EDIT March 4, 2019:I just realized something so I wanted to update my review to warn others and update my star rating.Currently, the Amazon product page states the recipes are "lower-carb", but if you look at the actual book photo, it states "low-carb" (See photo I took of the product page in case they change the picture). The cookbook I received states "lower-carb".Apparently in their initial iteration of the cookbook they wanted to say "low carb", but realized how far from the truth that is. Instead they decided to just call it "lower-carb". Easier to just change the title than to change the recipes.As in my original review, I seriously question this claim. To me it is a play on words and very gimmicky. For this reason I am amending my review to remove another star.ORIGINAL REVIEW:2 things to know before you purchase this cookbook.1. Although the title says 2-ingredient every recipe is more than 2 ingredients. The BASE for the recipes is 2 ingredients, self rising flour and greek yogurt. This should be inferred, but I wanted to point it out.2. And this is a BIG one for me. It says "lower-carb" recipes. Lower than what?? With a claim like that I expected each recipe to have its nutritional value listed, but no - nothing is listed. They didn't bother to put a sneak peek option on the product page like almost every other book on Amazon has. Had they done that, my expectation would have been properly set.With bread most carbs comes from the flour..... sooooo not sure where the lower-carb claim is coming from - is it the inclusion of the greek yogurt? Possibly, but again no nutritional values are listed to verify that claim.What I do like about the book is she does provide a recipe on how to make self rising flour so you don't have to make a special trip to the grocery store.The recipes are varied and are straight forward. The pictures are realistic. Success with the recipes has been 50/50. I will need to try more to see if it is user error.I would have rated this book higher if they would have set the right expectation in the title and their claim on what this cookbook is and is not.Between the 2-ingredient claim, the lower-carb claim with no nutritional values to back up that claim and the 50/50 success rate so far, I cannot rate this cookbook any higher, yet.
Had high expectations, lovely photos, easy to follow recipes, simple ingredients.I tried one of the recipes for pizza bread (3 ingredients-flour, yogurt and oil), I used the weight measurements as instructed, it came out way to wet to even knead so tossed the batch. I may try another, but this one didn’t turn out as expected.Some of the recipes call for oil or butter so not really 2 ingredients.
even though folk frown on carbs these days, i found this book useful. the basic 2 ingredients are yogurt & self-rising flour which are easy to combine. there are 169 pages of 2-page recipes with beautiful full page color photos. all the recipes are straight forward & easy to make. i have been making the cheesy biscuits but i plan to try some of the others soon.this a very useful and handy book for everyday easy baking.
I've been baking for nearly 70 years but one can always learn something new.This compilation of simple recipes should fulfill the wishes of anyone who wants to bake health breads.There are so many types in this book that should satisfy anyone.
