I like Charlotte Moss. She has curiosity and drive, and she has wonderful taste. That said, this book is a disappointment. Production-wise, it seems cheap. Flat, low quality pages, printed in China. So here is a guide to fabulously stylish entertainment that exemplifies a lack of attention to the sort of aesthetic detail touted by the author. Also, one section of the book is devoted to a few cursory accounts of women who were reputed to be great hostesses in their day, but the few cobbled together paragraphs about each and the poor photography make the section appear to be slapdash filler. The book should have offered more specific information about china patterns, silverware, linens, and crystal, instead of just a list of resources at the end. If readers are looking for information about what sort of household staff one will need at each of her or his three or more residences (one chef, one person dedicated to the inventory and ironing of table linens, gardeners, housekeepers, an assistant for scheduling and travel arrangements, get the picture?), then this book will be helpful. Otherwise, take a pass and wait until Rizzoli returns to its former glory, which I hope happens soon.
Charlotte Moss for years has been my idol. Sad to say this book fell flat. As always beautiful photography, but on cheap paper. The spine is giving way and pages are starting to float. I wanted this book to be my cozy book for summer, sadly it will not. I also found it difficult puzzling out where to find name of china and other charming displays could be obtained. Sourcing at the back of the book made that a clumsy way. I own all books Ms Moss has ever published and this is not keeping up. Flat, tired and not well thought out.Is Rizzoli also taking the lux out of their printing.Should be two stars, but as a fan of Charlotte Moss that seemed cruel.
What a disappointment! I have several books on entertaining and thought this would be a good addition but it’s mostly pages and pages of photo collages and menus and photos from Moss’s parties. Her idea of entertaining requires an enormous amount of helpers: caterers, servers, florists, staff to iron and inventory all her linens, staff to keep track of her china, crystal and sterling flatware in her multiple houses. Not much in the way of useful entertaining advice. Some of the book pages were not cut at the top so they tore when I tried to turn them. The whole book seemed hastily put together by the author with lots of filler material used to up the page count.
Disappointing. Very little text but beautiful pictures. Not up to all her other books which I have loved.

Disappointed 😔 considering returning. I was so looking forward to learning from her but, basically this is a picture book and the photography isn’t very good! The fall table with pumpkins looked adorable however, the photographers shot was very vague and I can’t really get a good look at entire table. I may just use it for a decoration coffee table book. I can tell she is an outstanding hostess but would have thought she’d put more effort into this book. Very dissatisfied.
This book inspired me to make every meal a special occasion. It’s inspirational and the diverse themes make it a true sourcebook for every occasion. You can tell the author is a wonderful hostess and cares very much that her guests have a swell time amidst a beautifully set table. The photographs and the details are quite wonderful. I bought a batch of books for friends. It’s a great gift.
Although filled with beautifully produced, lovely photography, this has been the biggest disappointment of all her books. Little narrative and I missed that. I’ve bought all of her books and would recommend this one as a pretty “coffee table book†or a beautiful gift but not one you turn to again and again.
