This guide lives up to the standard set by other excellent Timber Press guides and describes a fairly comprehensive selection of wildflowers, more in one volume than any other regional guide I have seen. My only criticism is that some of the images are too widely shot to make out distinguishing characteristics of some species. It seems the authors / editors favored images portraying the majority of the total structure of the plants rather than just the flowers. Usually this works out well but sometimes doesn't portray the smaller features one would look for to identify a particular species with enough detail to be useful. A few entries do include a second image set in a subframe of the main image, but I guess like any other formatting decision compromises were decided for the sake of uniformity. All in all a clearly organized, sturdily constructed guide which describes many species other rocky mountain wildflower guides leave out, definitely recommended.
I bought the Kindle edition (and returned it). Lots of good background information here, and coverage is extensive -- there's plenty to help the amateur botanist. However, flower photos in the Kindle edition are not much bigger than thumbnail size, and image quality is awful if you try to enlarge them. Because of that, it's very difficult to use this book for flower identification.
This is the best wildflower reference book I have purchased. Very easy to find the right plant using their guides. Highly recommend!
