This is a contemporary drama story perfect for an ABC Family TV series. Three weeks into her Freshman year of college, Laurel discovers that she's pregnant. What will she do about it? Who can she tell? I put off reading this one for a while because I wasn't sure the soap opera sounding plot would grab me, but it got its hooks in nice and deep once I finally opened it up and gave it a chance. Duval has created a complex character in Laurel. On the surface she seems like a pretty, smart, rich girl with no real worries. Then the layers come on one after another, and you find yourself really aching for her. The horrible relationship with her father. The missed connection with the boy she meets at school. Being left out of campus life. There are three wonderful characters who come to her side in the second half of the book, and by then you are so thankful they've arrived. College is hard. Pregnancy is hard. Trying to do them both at the same time, at eighteen, with no help? This really was an unexpected page turner for me. I was with her journey right up to the end and a little curious as to what will happen to her next. I definitely recommend this for readers 16 and older.

This is the kind of book that you will consume voraciously, rather than read. Laurel is a real, relatable character and she compels you come along with her on her bumpy journey. This book takes one of the central issues of the "culture wars"--teen sexuality and pregnancy and deals with it in a decidedly non-political way. That's important--because ultimately these decisions and life-pivots are all made one at a time, by individual people arriving at the best choice for them at that time. This story fosters empathy and compassion--highly recommended.

This was a really interesting read. I kept putting myself in the MC's head and thinking about my own college life and how different things would have been experiencing college through the perspective of an expecting freshman. The parties/dorm life/supporting characters were very realistic, and I found Laurel to be quietly strong. I hope there's a sequel to the book so I can find out what's next for her and her family!

It was a so so read the girl was right in what she did however and things turned out all right in the end

This is probably one of the best books I've read in over a year. Laurel is a real person, someone we all know and love. Beautifully written! I hope there's a second book soon. Extremely happy I got a chance to read this.

Once getting to a certain point I couldn't let go of this book!! It turned out to make me cry; it was so beautiful. I am the same age as the girl in the novel, so it was easy to relate to her story. I have a friend going through the same situation and this book actually has taught me a lot about pregnancy that may come in handy.

The entire book is about a girl that got pregnant at the start of her freshman year and hid it from everyone. I find it unrealistic that she was able to hide her pregnancy for so long and I guess I don't quite understand the motivation. But I liked the story. It was new a innovative.

I really enjoyed this book and what it was about. I am in college and cannot imagine what my life would have been like if I would have got pregnant my freshman year. it is so interesting to see how she processes the pregnancy along with her schooling. a definite must read.
